Couples
Couples’ therapy is useful when you want support with specific difficulties or a dedicated space to nurture and nourish your relationship over time.
Henry Winkler
We are not taught relationship skills, yet we seek connection and a bond with another that touches the deepest part of our being. I offer couples’ therapy to enable you to learn those skills and bring the best of yourself to your relationship.
My aim is to encourage and support open discussion about difficult subjects with kindness and compassion. To strengthen and deepen communication and contact. To acknowledge where you have come from, where you are now and where you want to get to in your relationship.
Relationship skills are multi-faceted and include, among other things, making time to be together and talk about what’s on your mind, staying curious about yourself and each other, learning how to make and communicate appropriate boundaries, and a willingness to share who you are.
Some areas of work can be how to manage:
- Money
- Sexuality
- Emotional Intimacy
- Power
- Decision making
- Anger and conflict
- Family relationships
- Transitions and changes
- Couples Practice Class (2003-2020) – A bi-monthly in-person class teaching practical relationship skills.
- Transforming Relationships (2006) – A six-month in-person, in-depth relationship learning programme on taking charge of and shaping relationships.
- The Story of our Lives (2006) and Change (2007) – One-day workshops
I decided to train professionally as a couples’ therapist in 2013, starting with an intensive, 12-month, face to face programme with Spectrum Centre for Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. Then as part of my continued professional development, additional workshops with CORST (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists):
- Spectrum Working with Couples (2013)
- CORST Introduction to Working with Couples (2014)
- CORST Dealing with Affairs (2016)
I am part of a specialised and dedicated professional supervision group specifically focussed on working with couples and the issues that arise. I have been a member since 2021.
